This New DOT Rule Takes Effect Oct. 19
A new Department of Transportation rule set to take effect on October 19 will change requirements affecting airline passengers, part of a continuing effort by regulators to strengthen consumer protections in air travel.
Passenger advocacy groups have generally welcomed increased DOT enforcement of consumer protections, arguing that market competition alone has not been sufficient to guarantee fair treatment of travelers, particularly around cancellations, delays and refunds.
Travelers are advised to review how the new requirement affects their booking and refund rights ahead of the effective date.
