Lisbon was named Europe’s leading city and cruise destination, and Portugal Europe’s leading destination, at the World Travel Awards Europe 2026, Euronews Travel reported on October 19. The winners were announced on October 17 at a gala at the Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort in Montenegro.

Category winners included the Algarve for beaches, Athens for city breaks, Italy for culture, Armenia for heritage, Spain for adventure and Montenegro for nature. Among hotels, The Chancery Rosewood in London was named the leading new hotel and Venice’s Gritti Palace the most romantic.

Turkish Airlines took the title of Europe’s leading airline, Volotea the leading low-cost carrier, and Zurich Airport the top airport award.
